Cruise line guide

Celebrity Cruises

Contemporary premium cruising with design-led ships, thoughtful dining and a calmer, more polished rhythm at sea.

About the cruise line

What to expect from Celebrity Cruises.

Celebrity sits between a busy resort-at-sea holiday and a more traditional formal cruise. The ships feel contemporary, architectural and outward-looking, with serious attention paid to restaurants, bars, natural materials and sea views. There is still entertainment and plenty happening, but the atmosphere is generally polished rather than hectic and relaxed rather than ceremonial.

Fleet at a glance

Understand the ship families.

The ships share a service style, but their scale, architecture and onboard rhythm can feel very different.

01

Edge Series

Celebrity Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent and Xcel

The most architectural and outward-facing ships in the fleet, known for the Magic Carpet, broad glass views and contemporary public spaces. Beyond and Ascent are enlarged developments; Xcel evolves the concept again with new destination-led venues.

Choose by home port, itinerary and the particular generation of Edge design.

02

Solstice Series

Celebrity Solstice, Equinox, Eclipse, Silhouette and Reflection

Large, well-rounded premium ships with real-grass upper decks, generous indoor pools and a more conventional balcony choice than Edge Series. Their exact facilities vary, especially as the ships move through Celebrity's renewal programme.

A strong balance of itinerary choice, familiar ship layout and premium atmosphere.

03

Millennium Series

Celebrity Millennium, Infinity, Summit and Constellation

Smaller, more intimate ships with warm interiors and less emphasis on headline architecture. Their scale can suit destination-led itineraries where access and an easier onboard rhythm matter.

Look here when route and manageable scale matter more than having the newest ship.

Expedition

Celebrity Flora

A purpose-built 100-guest Galápagos expedition yacht. Flora is a separate product from Celebrity's ocean fleet, combining guided exploration, Zodiac operations and small-scale, nature-focused spaces.

Choose Flora for the Galápagos experience, not as a smaller version of a mainstream Celebrity cruise.
The ships

Ships to know.

Celebrity's current fleet is best understood as four families rather than fifteen near-identical ships. The six profiles below show the most useful differences in scale, design and destination focus.

Celebrity Apex

The original Edge experience with particular relevance to UK travellers through selected Southampton seasons.

Start here for a contemporary, design-led ship with plenty to explore, but a calmer feel than a high-energy family resort at sea.

On board

What to look for.

Apex makes its strongest impression through spaces that connect contemporary architecture with the sea.

Open-air seating, planting and sea views provide a more relaxed counterpoint to the interior venues.

Celebrity Xcel

Celebrity's newest Edge development, adding more destination-led food, entertainment and outdoor ideas.

Consider Xcel if the newest interpretation of Celebrity matters and you want the ship's venues to change the character of a sea day.

On board

What to look for.

Xcel retains the Edge Series language but introduces venues designed around destination, food and a livelier outdoor rhythm.

Celebrity Xcel: The Bazaar

An airy, garden-like restaurant with a Mediterranean outlook and strong connection to the open deck.

Celebrity Xcel: Magic Carpet

The signature cantilevered platform remains one of the clearest ways to dine or relax directly over the sea.

Celebrity Beyond

A representative of the enlarged Beyond and Ascent generation, with expanded public rooms and more generous outdoor spaces.

A strong fit if you like the Edge concept but want a bigger social heart, a larger Retreat and more developed upper-deck venues.

On board

What to look for.

Beyond develops the Edge idea with larger social spaces and a more layered relationship between dining, gardens and the horizon.

Celebrity Beyond: Sunset Bar

A terraced aft setting with a Mediterranean-influenced bar, relaxed seating and uninterrupted wake views.

Celebrity Beyond: Expanded Grand Plaza
Expanded Grand Plaza

A larger, more theatrical version of Celebrity's central social space, still focused on the Martini Bar.

Celebrity Solstice

The renewed lead ship of the Solstice Series, combining an established premium layout with updated outdoor, dining and entertainment spaces.

A useful reference for the renewed Solstice product, but always check the exact sister ship because refurbishment dates and venues differ.

On board

What to look for.

The renewed ship keeps the class's familiar strengths while giving the upper decks and selected venues a more current identity.

Celebrity Solstice: Sunset Park
Sunset Park

The renewed top-deck park replaces the former Lawn Club, adding open-air gathering, games, concerts and films with wide views.

Celebrity Solstice: Grand Foyer and Martini Bar

A more traditional central atrium arrangement than Edge Series, with the ice-topped bar as a recognisable social anchor.

Celebrity Solstice: Solarium

A bright glass-roofed indoor pool makes the ship particularly adaptable to Alaska, Northern Europe and changeable weather.

Celebrity Solstice: Sky Observation Lounge

Celebrity Millennium

A representative Millennium Series ship: smaller, warmer in character and often chosen because of where it sails.

Worth comparing when a more manageable ship and destination-led itinerary appeal more than the newest onboard architecture.

On board

What to look for.

Millennium's spaces feel more intimate and traditionally arranged, without losing Celebrity's premium service and finish.

Celebrity Millennium: Grand Foyer
Grand Foyer

A compact multi-level atrium with an illuminated staircase, glass balconies and a warm sense of arrival.

Celebrity Millennium: Rendezvous Lounge

Celebrity Flora

A purpose-built Galápagos expedition yacht for just 100 guests, designed around guided exploration rather than conventional cruising.

Flora should be compared with expedition products, not chosen simply because it is Celebrity's smallest ship.

On board

What to look for.

Everything is smaller-scale and destination-facing, with naturalists, wildlife viewing and expedition operations shaping the day.

Celebrity Flora: Discovery Lounge
Discovery Lounge

The main briefing and gathering space, arranged for naturalist talks as well as relaxed drinks and conversation.

A quiet forward lounge with angled panoramic windows for reading, wildlife spotting and watching the islands.

Informal outdoor dining and shaded lounge seating keep the Galápagos landscape close even between excursions.

Accommodation choices

Choose the experience, not just the room.

Celebrity's room categories can change both the physical cabin and the wider onboard experience. The exact ship matters, particularly when comparing Edge and Solstice Series.

Original illustration board comparing Celebrity accommodation and The Retreat
01

Infinite Veranda

On Edge Series, the window lowers so the veranda zone becomes part of the room. It creates more usable interior space, but feels different from stepping onto a separate balcony.

02

Conventional veranda

A separate exterior balcony remains available on ships such as Solstice. It may suit you better if a clearly defined outdoor space is important.

03

AquaClass

A spa-oriented category with added benefits such as access to Blu; inclusions and room designs should be checked on the exact ship.

04

The Retreat

Celebrity's suite experience combines higher-category accommodation with dedicated spaces and services. Facilities vary by ship and generation.

Who it suits

Is it the right fit?

01

Couples and friends who value food, design and a sophisticated atmosphere without heavy formality

02

First-time cruisers who want something more polished and restrained than a large resort-style ship

03

Travellers willing to compare the exact ship, cabin category and itinerary rather than choosing on cruise-line name alone
